Cleaning Coffeemachine

Maintenance Guide: Backflushing & Deep Cleaning

Follow these steps to ensure your espresso machine and components stay in top condition:

  1. Preparation: Remove the filter baskets from the portafilters.
  2. Disassembly: Use a screwdriver to remove the screws from the group head shower screens. Place the screws in an espresso cup for safekeeping.
  3. Initial Rinse: Rinse the baskets, screws, and portafilters under running water to remove any visible coffee residue.
  4. Soak: Place the baskets and screws in a bath of hot water mixed with Cafetto cleaner. Let them soak for at least 5 minutes.
  5. Scrub Group Head: While the parts are soaking, use a group brush to thoroughly scrub the group head area.
  6. Blind Basket: Place the blank (blind) basket into the portafilter.
  7. Add Cleaner: Add a very small amount of Cafetto to the blank basket, then lock the portafilter into the machine.
  8. Auto Backflush: Activate the automatic backflush cycle. Press and hold the top and left buttons for 4 seconds (or until you hear it click on). The cycle will pulse 10 times.
  9. Water Rinse: Remove the portafilter to dump out any leftover cleaner. Lock it back in and run the backflush cycle once more using only water.
  10. Final Rinse: Remove the shower screens and baskets from the Cafetto bath and rinse them thoroughly with clean water.
  11. Reassemble Screens: Screw the shower screens back into the group head. Note: They should be “finger tight”β€”do not over-tighten them.
  12. Finish: Replace the baskets into the portafilters. Your machine is now clean and ready for use!
